Art & Narratives

The Kiss

The Kiss is an abstract instinctive representation of a passenger memory of Brancusi’s statue The Kiss in Montparnasse cemetery in Paris. It's an expression of ultimate perceived solitude and of deconstructed nature of images in (f)acts of remembrance. The painting is fast, brutal and instinctive in facing the resistance of oil as a medium, pushed in rough layers, by using a palette knife and a large brush and its tale. Its atmosphere, colors and shadows express a desperate romanticism: the nature of love with no ultimate metaphysical prospects.

The Kiss was displayed in the exhibition ARTBOX. PROJECT New York 1.0 at the Stricoff Gallery during the The Armory Art Weeks from 5th of March – 17th of March, 2018.

Geographies of the soul

Narrative series - Ephemeral Exhibition

Geographies of the soul (2020 - 2022) is an abstract narrative series of oil paintings. Each one reflects, in some free gestures, a thought, a text, or a paragraph from some of my readings. For a passionate reader, they reflect a non-textual narrative instinct imprinted in visual gestures. Even if related to words, the choice of colors reflects rather my post-textual feelings: where the text places me mnemonically and emotionally. It’s more about what persist as impression when I forget most of the sentences. The remains of the stories project some visual & spatial identifiers where we can still locate the feelings left when the memory diluted its words. The visual imprints often send me back to the texts I forgot to recapture the feeling. And I do that by painting. The first painting is Samarkand (oil on canvas), referring to “Samarkand, the most beautiful face the Earth has ever turned towards the sun.” that Amin Maalouf relates to Omar Khayyam’s Rubáiyát.
